Q

What does a step-up and step down transformer do?

A
  • a step-up transformer whilst increasing the voltage, decreases the current so it reduces the resistance and therefore power loss
  • vice versa for step-down transformer

Q

Why do transformers only work with AC supply?

A

because it will produce a magnetic field that moves through the core and forces electrons in the secondary coil to flow/move

Q

How does the number of coils transformer effect whether it steps up or down?

A

if there are more turns on the secondary coil than on the primary then the voltage will step up (and vice versa)
