Electromagnetic induction & The generator effect 4.7.3.1-2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is electromagnetic induction/the generator effect?
A
a potential current/voltage is needed to make an electric current flow in a circuit:
- a coil of wire is moved in a magnetic field
- a magnet is moved into a coil of wire
2
Q
Why is the reason the generator effect works?
A
- only works if there is relative motion
- this is because the field lines to cut through the wire
3
Q
How can you reverse the direction of the induced current?
A
- the magnet moves in the opposite direction
- the opposite pole is inserted first
4
Q
How can the size of the induced current/potential difference increase?
A
- increase speed of movement
- increase the magnet strength(flux density)
- increase the number of turns on the coil
5
Q
What graph is produced when the generator effect is used?
A
Alternating Current graph
