Transformations And Rigid Motion Flashcards
Rigid motion…
Changes the position of a figure but preserves its angle measure and segment length(the preimage and the image have the same angle measures and segment lengths), collinearity, parallelism, and betweenness.
If the direction of a rotation is not stated, (clockwise, counterclockwise) is implied.
counterclockwise
Name the steps to rotate point A 45 degrees around point X
1) Connect points A and X by drawing a straight line between them.
2) Using segment AX as the base of the angle, measure 45 degrees counterclockwise, or to the left of the preimage. Draw that 45 degree line.
3) Measure the length of segment AX. Draw point A’ that same distance 45 degrees counterclockwise from segment AX
Name the steps needed to reflect point A over a line
1) Find the slope of the line of reflection
2) Find the reciprocal of the slope, then multiply it by -1. This is the slope of the line from point A forming a 90 degree angle with the line of reflection.
