transfer of thermal energy Flashcards
what is thermal energy
thermal energy flows from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature. the transfer of thermal energy can occur in three different way (CONDUCTION CONVECTION RADIATION)
what is conduction
conduction is the process by which thermal energy is transmitted through a medium from one particle to another place
what is a medium
smt like solid liquid and gasXD
how does conduction work
when one end of the rod is heated the atom there gain energy and vibrate the atom collide with the neighbour atom until the end
what does solid transfer faster than other states (conduction)
as solid is molecules are closer to each other thus the kinetic energy can be pass through more easily
eg of good conductor of heat
copper iron
wat is another word for poor conductor
insulators
how can insulator help in our normal life
insulator are poor conductor of heat so they can achieve of reducing the conduction of thermal energy
why does birld puff up in cold weather ?
as feather can trap air,and air is a poor conductor of heat so it help them to reduce heat lost in cold weather
what is convection
convection is the process by which thermal energy is tramited from one place to another by the movement of heat and gas
why is air conditional put up in high places
as hot air rise cold air sinks by putting air-conditional high up helps to creat a convection current which allow the room to stay cool
sea and land breeze
during the day the land heats ip much faster than sea due to efficient conduction in the ground (liquid bad conductor compare to solid !!!) convection also cannot be taken place as only the SURFACE of the water is heated and rise and come back that is sea BREEZEEEE
conduction is only for metal vs non metal
Radiator/absorber is for coloured eg black vs white or shinyyyyyyyyy!!!!
_ jia you!!!
radiation
radiation is the process by which thermal energy is transferred by electromagnetic wave
the rate of energy trasnsfer by radiation is affected by???
surface temperature surface COLOUR and TEXTURE and surface area
