kinematics Flashcards
what is distance?
distance is the actual or total length travelled by an object in motion it is also a scalar quantity
what is displacement?
displacement is the direction moved in a specific direction.it is a vector quantity and is the straight-line distance between the starting position and the final position.
what is a vector quantity?
a vector quantity has both magnitude and direction eg displacement velocity acceleration momentum force
what is a scalar quantity?
scalar only has magnitude (cm, kg,) eg length area speed mass density temperature
how do we find displacement?
displacement=final postion- initial position(start)
tip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When writing displacement RMB to write displacement =10km EAST/WEST/NORTH/SOUTH
when the displacement is 0 don’t write east north south-west
tip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
distance travelled and displacement is TWO different things. distance travelled is the total distance that the person travelled but if the person just when back whr it start the displacement is 0
tipXD
NORTH
WEST EAST
SOUTH
speed
speed=distance travelled/time taken
average speed
average speed =total distance travelled/total time taken
what is velocity
velocity is the distaance travelled per unit time in a specified direction and also be defined as the rate of change of displacement 60/h moving towards east.
velocity formula
velocity=displacement/time taken
acceleration (rate of change of velocity )
acceleration=change in velocity/time taken
a=v-u/t a=acceleration v-u= final position -start poisition t=time taken
instantaneous speed
speed at a particular time
instantaneous velocity
velocity at a particular time
