Transcription/Translation Flashcards
Define Transcription:
Transcription is the process in which a DNA sequence is transcribed into an RNA molecule with the help of enzyme, RNA polymerase. One of the DNA strands acts as a template to make a complementary RNA strand.
Define Translation:
This single strand of mRNA exits the nucleus into the cytoplasm where it will find a ribosome to “read” its code and make it into an amino acid code. This process is translation.
During Translation:
mRNA is read by the ribosome in triplets or codons, three nucleotides at a time – these
codons are referred to as the genetic code
● each codon specifies one amino acid
● tRNA delivers the amino acid to the ribosome
● tRNA contains a complementary anticodon that recognizes the mRNA codon
