Central Dogma/Protein Synthesis Flashcards
DNA molecule consists of:
a deoxyribose sugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogenous base.
Go over DNA replication
During DNA replication, the DNA molecule separates into two strands, and then produces two new complementary strands following the rule of base pairing (A-T, C-G).
Each strand of the double helix of DNA serves as a template, or model, for the new strand. Thus, new DNA strands are considered to be semiconservative, half original. DNA and half new DNA. DNA polymerase is the enzyme that joins individual nucleotides to produce a DNA molecule (polymer).
What are the 3 main types of RNA?
messenger (mRNA), transfer (tRNA), and ribosomal (rRNA).
DNA has:
-double helix
-thymine
-Deoxyribose (sugar)
-STAYS IN THE NUCLEUS
RNA has:
-single strand
-uracil
-ribose
-travels through cytoplasm to ribosome
An RNA molecule consists of:
a ribose sugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogenous base
(remember, RNA has NO thymine)
