Slavery

Triangular Trade
the sea journey, across the Atlantic Ocean, taken by enslaved people from West Africa to the Americas; part of the Slave Trade
Middle passage
a public sale where goods or property are sold to the highest bidder; Slave Trade auctions involved the sale of enslaved people
Auction
estates on which tobacco and cotton and other products are grown (the manager of plantation is known as a planter)
Plantations
the refusal to accept or comply with something; either actively (using violent methods) or passively (using peaceful methods)
Resistance
to bring something to an end, so it no longer exists (‘to abolish’)
Abolition
murdering someone for supposed crime without trial, usually by hanging
Lynching
a farmer labourer (worker); this was the job of most enslaved people on plantations in the Americas during the Slave Trade
Fieldhand
a system of moving (transporting) goods or people from one place to another; happened on boats and ships during the Slave Trade
Transportation
crossing the Atlantic Ocean; boats and ships crossed the Atlantic Ocean all three routes within the ‘Triangular Trade’ system
Transatlantic
the capture, transportation, buying and selling of enslaved people for work and profit, e.g. the Transatlantic Slave Trade
