Phase 1: Initial Officer Training (Residential)
Duration: Two weeks (residential)
Conducted at the Royal Australian Naval College, HMAS Creswell.
Includes issue of uniforms and Navy ID card.
Subjects covered during the period include:
Leadership and Management,
Drill,
Swim Test,
Fitness Test,
Equity and Diversity and
Security.
Phase 2: Initial Officer Training
8 modules via distance learning packages
Navy Organisation,
Defence Writing,
Contemporary Warfare,
Navy History,
Officer of the Day,
Divisional Officer,
Defence Force Discipline Act and
Maritime Doctrine.
Phase 3: Pre-Sea Training
Duration: 2 weeks (residential)
Completion of three courses required before proceeding to sea -
Combat Survivability (five days),
Survival at Sea (two days) and
First Aid (three days).
Phase 4: Sea Training Deployment
Duration: Two weeks (residential)
Consisting of a two-week training deployment on a Royal Australian Navy ship at sea and completion of task book.
Employment Training
Course: ADF Chaplain Initial Course
Duration: 25 Days
Location: Defence Force Chaplains College (DFCC), Canberra, ACT
The purpose of this course is to train newly appointed Chaplains and Wellbeing Officers in Navy, Army and Air Force in common core service areas for employment in their respective Services.
This course provides members an understanding of how Defence services operate which includes an overview of the relevant doctrine, policy and functions of the support services and agencies that are relevant to the Wellbeing Officers role.
The course also includes and analysis on character, ethics and morality theory and training to aid mental health support and suicide prevention.
