Why do you want to be an officer in the Royal Australian Navy?
I strongly value the role the ADF play in protecting our national security, and working to maintain stability regionally and globally.
Humanitarian support provided both abroad and locally supporting our civilian communities through crisis response due to natural disasters, more recently the coronavirus.
I have had a connection to ADF throughout my adult life, joining the RAAF at aged 19 and serving 13yrs
I am married to a senior Officer who has served 24 yrs in PAF and continues to serve for the last 10 years in the active reserves.
I have maintained a close connection to the ADF community attending military ceremonies and functions with my husband, life long friendships established during service and veterans support programs and activities
I feel that my being part of the ADF community is integral to my sense of self and the person I have become. It is a community I wish to continue to be a part of as a MSWO
20yrs SW experience within mental health services, including positions of leadership, I feel drawn to the role of ADF Officer and in particular the MSWO position, because I feel they play an integral role in supporting the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Navy personnel. Using a person centred approach to supporting the whole person, including their spirituality, building individual strength and resilience, and in-turn strengthening the Navy
I value and respect diversity, and respect the changes the ADF have made to be more inclusive of cultural, sexual and spiritual diversity.
Why do you want to be a MSWO?
I value the role of each serving member, their personal strength and the sacrifices they make.
Through my time of being an ADF member and spouse, I have lived experience and knowledge of the challenges that can be faced by serving members and their families, impacts of postings and deployments, the risk associated with service and the potential physical and emotional trauma that can result.
I understand the importance of, and connectivity between, the mental health and wellbeing of ADF members / Naval sailors and officers, and the capability of the service. I feel the role the MSWO and chaplaincy branch play are integral in supporting this.
What are your strengths?
My lived experience, and understanding of the complexities and personal demands involved in being a serving member.
20yrs SW experience within mental health services, including positions of leadership
professional, strong work ethic, adapt well to change, comfortable working autonomously or in a team,
I am able to establish solid working relationships, work collaboratively, embracing opinions different from my own.
I aspire to always be authentic and true to myself, show humility and respect to others
I value and respect diversity, and respect the changes the ADF have made to be more inclusive of cultural, sexual and spiritual diversity.
What are your weaknesses?
Things that I feel may be my weaknesses, they are also strengths.
My Aging brings with it challenges of not being as physically capable and robust and cognitively sharp and quick thinking as I was, make some activities more challenging and take me longer.
