Mechanism of action
Forms a complex that displaces plasminogen from fibrin resulting in fibrinolysis
Indications
Hemorrhagic shock
Contraindications
Injury time >3 hours
Pregnancy
Known history of thromboembolic disease (DVT , PE , ETC)
Use of anticoagulants (warfarin, lovenox, etc)
Hemophilia
Side effects / adverse reactions
Visual defects
Retinal venous and arterial occlusions
Thrombotic events
Adult dose
Loading- 1 G in 50 ml NS over 10 minutes
Maintenance- 1 G over 8 hours
Pediatric dose
Safety not established
Drug interactions
Concurrent use of birth control increase risk of thromboembolic event
Duration of action
Onset - 5-10 minutes
Peak - variable
Duration - 2-5 hours
