What is needed for reward schedules to be effective?

A

The reward chosen must be a sufficient value to the dog, so that control over its behavior can be gained

Q

What is a variable ratio reward schedule?

A

Variable ratios must begin with the ratio of 2:1. That is, there is no way to begin the variable ratio schedule in a smaller ratio than 2:1. For every two correct responses, the dog is provided with his reward only once.
Once the dog has demonstrated that it can perform the task successfully using the ratio of 2:1, then progressed to the rat ratio of 3:1. This will continue until the ratio of 5:1 is achieved
