Training Principles Flashcards
Frequency
Number of training sessions undertaken in a week.
Improvements- 3
Maintenance- 2
Intensity
Level of exterior applied during training
Aerobic- 70-85%
Anaerobic- above 85%
(ATP CP- 95%)
Time
Refers to the length of the; training program and training session
Type
Refers to the training method
Aerobic
Anaerobic
Flexibility
Specificity
The activities must replicate the competition/ performance
- energy system usage
- work: rest ratio
- Fitness components
- major muscles and movements
Progression
Placing the body under new stress to bring about improvements
- must overload yo avoid plateau
- no more then 10% increase
- increase 1 variable at a time
Individuality
Everyone is different so training is tailored to individual
- age
- gender
- fitness levels
- genetics predisposition
- experience
Maintenance
Min x2 sessions per week for maintenance
Min x3 sessions per week for improvements
Diminishing returns
As a performer/ athlete gets closer to their genetic potential, their rate of improvement slows
Overtraining
Results in injury from athletes who overtrain, which occurs as a result of poorly planned training programs.
Detraining
Detraining occurs when an athlete gets an injury or, illness or is in the off-season, as they are not training as often as normal
Variety
Variety is about introducing changes to a training program by incorporating different methods whilst still being specific to the sport.
