Training Methods Flashcards
What are the types of flexibility training?
Static active stretching
Static passive stretching
Ballistic stretching
PNF
What is ballistic stretching?
It involves fast, jerky movements that stretch the muscle through its full range of movement. .
What is static active stretching?
Stretches are performed by the sports performer on their own.
What is static passive?
An external force is applied that stretches the performers muscle. This external force could be a person or an object.
What is the PNF technique
Alternating between static stretches and isometric contractions
What can circuit training be used for?
Muscular Endurance, Power, Muscular Strength, Aerobic Endurance but mainly muscular endurance
What does circuit training involve?
Circuit training has consecutive stations that sports performers work at. These stations should vary each time from working the upper body to working the lower body so that the individual’s body does not fatigue.
How would you increase the intensity of circuit training?
Reduce the rest periods in between each station
Increase the number of stations
Increase the time spent at each station
Increase the number of circuits performed during each session
What are the advantages and disadvantages of circuit training?
+ sport specific
+ no specialist equipment required
+ Focus on one aspect of a physical component of fitness
- Allow sufficient time for planning and organising the circuit
- Allow sufficient time for demonstrations of each station
What are the two types of free weights?
Barbells or dumbbells
What are the advantages and disadvantages of ballistic stretching?
+ They can incorporate sport-specific movements
- It can easily cause muscle soreness or injury
