Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the BMI test?

A

It can determine if a person has an increased risk of developing CHD or other cardiovascular diseases. It is used to judge whether a person is underweight or overweight. However, it does not take into account fat free mass or the frame of the person.

17
Q

What is the BIA? What is used for?

A

The BIA test sends an electric current through the body and says that the higher the resistance to the electrical current the higher the body fat percentage. This is because fat free mass conducts electricity whereas fat mass does not. It is used to predict body fat percentage

18
Q

The skinfold tests is used to measure a person’s body fat percentage. How?

A

The skinfold callipers are placed on the body, chest, abdomen and thigh if male and suprailiac, thigh and triceps if female, and measurements are read off the scale. Two measurements should be taken to work out an average of the person’s body fat percentage.
