Traffic Controls Flashcards
What does a SOLID RED traffic light mean?
“STOP”
you can make a right turn against a red traffic signal light after you stop. Yield to pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles; only turn when safe. Do not turn if “NO TURN ON RED” sign is posted.
What does a RED ARROW mean?
“STOP”
remain stopped until the green signal OR green arrow appears, do not turn against a red arrow.
What does a SOLID YELLOW signal mean?
“CAUTION”
The red traffic signal is about to appear, stop safely if you can, otherwise cross the intersection safely.
What does a YELLOW ARROW mean?
“protected turning time period is ending”
Be prepared to obey next traffic signal.
What does a FLASHING YELLOW signal mean?
“PROCEED WITH CAUTION”
slow down & be alert before entering intersection, yield to pedestrians/cyclists/vehicles, but you are not permitted to stop.
What does a FLASHING YELLOW ARROW mean?
“turns are permitted (unprotected)”
You must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians, THEN you may proceed.
What does a SOLID GREEN signal mean?
“GO”
give the right of way to pedestrians/cyclists/vehicles in the intersection, otherwise you can make turns/enter the intersection.
If you enter an intersection because of a SOLID GREEN signal, but you cannot get completely across before the traffic signal turns red and you block the intersection, you can be… [?]
cited.
What does a GREEN ARROW signal mean?
“GO”
After yielding to Pedestrians/vehicles, you must turn in the direction of the arrow; the green arrow allows for a “protected” turn, meaning that oncoming traffic and pedestrians are stopped by a red traffic light.
What do you do in case of a TRAFFIC SIGNAL LIGHT NOT WORKING (BLACKOUT), a situation where the signal light is not working/not showing a signal?
Proceed with caution, as if the intersection is controlled by “STOP” signs in all directions.
