Functional- departments divided based on functional areas.
Divisional- authority is sorted based on company divisions or brans
Geographic - structure based on physical regions
Matrix - functional + divisional - integrates functional structure with divisional components
Hybrid- Unique customer needs and is a blend of any of the other structures
Less Traditional Structures
flat line/horizontal - reduces boundaries and coordinates efforts of all employees to the desired outcome
Hollow - organizations seek to limit what functions are completed in-house and focus instead on core competencies
Modular - characterized by strategic business units that focus on individual pieces of a whole product
Virtual - employees may be scattered across geographies or around the world.
