french = wanted furs
indigenous = wanted sewing needles and metal pots

Both wanted to be involved in trading so they made Port Royal (a trading post) along with 60 colonists.

- Port Royal failed but few residents were permitted to stay behind and not work in trade, so instead they became farmers

They were french fur traders sent out by Champlain.
