Tracheobronchial Dz In Cats Flashcards
Bronchial constriction is aka
Asthma = Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis
What is the signalment for a cat with Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis
young to middle age and Siamese are pre-disposed
Chronic or intermittent cough and Acute resp distress (open mouth breathing and wheezing) in a Siamese cat, what can it be
Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis
If you get a cat with Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis, how will their RR be and what can you find in auscultation
RR will be low and at auscultation you can hear wheezes, crackles, and increased expiratory efforts
How can you differentiate a cat with Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis vs a cat with pleural effusion
With pleural effusion you might have crackles, they take small breaths, exhausted from breathing, but the RR is higher where as in Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis its low,
What do you do first if you suspect Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis
First Tier - Xrays - if cat is stable CBC and Fecal
After the first tier what else do you want to do to Dx Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis
Transtracheal wash/bronchoscopy/BAL and cytology/culture
With Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis what will you find on the CBC
eosinophil +/-
What can be found in the fecal exam, with Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis
Aelurostrongylus spp (lung worm)
What can you see in the xrays if you suspect Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis
Some lungs will look normal, others will have a bronchial pattern (MC) and others might have a reticular interstitial and patchy alveolar opacities (like a net over the lungs) Can also see hyperinflation flattening of the diaphragm
What can you see with Idiopathic Feline Bronchitis, on the xrays in 10% of cats
collapsed right middle lung
