Toxins Flashcards
Diptheria toxin and Psudo Enterotoxin A
ADP ribosylate EF-2, causing inhibition of protein synthesis
Shiga Toxin from Shigella or E.coli
RNA N-glycosidases 60s
Enterotoxins E.coli and Cholerae
Increase Gs which increases cAMP which causes fluid loss (diarrhea)
Pertussis toxin
Inhibits Gi in phagocytic cells which increases cAMP which causes decreased phagocytosis
Heat Stable Enterotoxin I in E.coli
Acts as guanylate cyclase which increases cAMP which causes fluid loss (diarrhea)
Anthrax Edema Factor and Pertussis adenylate cyclase toxin
Cuases increase in cAMP but needs calmodulin and Calcium from cell
Anthrax lethal factor
Cleave a particular MAP kinase kinase protein, inhibiting MAP kinase signaling
C. diff toxins A and B
inactivate cytoskeletons
What type of neurons does botulinum toxin act on?
Motor Neurons
What type of neurons does tetanus toxin act on?
Interneurons
What bacteria cause superantigens?
Strep A and Strep pyogenes
