TOXICOLOGY OF ANTICHOLINESTERASE AGENTS Flashcards
What are some muscarinic effects of anticholinesterase poisoning?
Diarrhea, Urination, Miosis, Bronchospasm, Salivation,bradycardia,emesis,lacrimation,sweating
DUMBBELSS
What are some nicotinic effects of anticholinesterase poisoning?
Neuromascular blockade similar to succinylcholine.
Reversed by pralidoxime, regenerates AChE via dephosphorylation if given early. Must be coadministered with atropine to prevent transient worsening of symptoms.
Pralidoxime does not readily cross BBB.
Reversed by atropine, a competitive inhibitor.
How can CNS symptoms be relieved in anticholinesterase poisoning?
Atropine can cross BBB to relieve CNS symptoms.
Atropine is a competitive inhibitor.
How is neuromuscular blockade in anticholinesterase poisoning reversed?
Reversed by pralidoxime, regenerates AChE.
Must be coadministered with atropine to prevent transient worsening of symptoms.
What are some CNS effects of anticholinesterase poisoning?
Respiratory depression, lethargy, seizures, coma.
