Tox. Osweiller. Toxicants Affects The ANS Flashcards
Amanita muscaria, A pantherina
MOA
CHARACTERISTICS
Contain ibotenic acid and muscimol, which compete with the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA
Seizures, opisthotonos, anticholinergic signs similar to those seen with atropine
Atropine or atropine-like plants ( Datura, Hyoscyamus, Jessemine, physalis)
MOA
Characteristics
Competitive antagonism of acetylcholine receptors at parasympathetic postganglionic nerve terminals
Tachycardia, GI atony, mydriasis, hypo-salivation, disturbed vision, hallucinations
Glycopyrrolate
MOA
Characteristics
Drug similar action to that of atropine, but does not cross the BBB, therefore no CNS effects
Scopalamine
MOA
Characteristics
Competitive antagonism of acetylcholine receptors at parasympathetic postganglionic nerve terminals
Tachycardia, GI atony, mydraisis, hyposalivation, disturbed vision, hallucinations
