Towing And Taxiing Flashcards
Where can you find information about wing walker/brake rider?
NA 00-80T-89
What is the minimum number of qualified people required to perform an aircraft move according to 00-80T-96?
6
How many qualified individuals are required to perform an aircraft move in accordance with VP-4 standard operating procedures?
With brakes: 9
Without brakes: 11
What is required to move an aircraft without brakes?
Chock walkers
Name all positions required for a move
- Director
- Senior Observer
- QA Representative
- Driver
- Brake rider
- Wing walker x2
- Tail walker x2
What must be done before an after every move?
Brief/Debrief
What is the brake pre charge?
1000 psi
What is the minimum brake pressure required to move an aircraft without chock walkers?
2850-3150
How many brake application are expected from a charge of 3000 psi?
6-8
What must be installed prior to a move?
- Landing gear lockout pins
- Nose wheel steering lockout pin
What is locked out by installing the nose wheel steering lockout pin?
Nose wheel hydraulics
Why is it necessary to lockout the nose wheel steering?
Prevents damage to the nose landing gear, towing equipment, and ground personnel by removing movement of the nose landing gear under its own power
What is the maximum turning radius of the P-8A?
78 degrees
What is required to turn up to 90 degrees?
Disconnect the torsion link
What is required to turn past 90 degrees?
Disconnect the nose taxi light wire
How is the nose wheel turning radius indicated?
Red lines on the nose landing gear door
How fast can an aircraft be towed?
5 mph, as fast as the slowest wing/tail walker
Why do we tow the aircraft 10 ft in a straight line after turning?
To align and relieve tension on the torsion links
What happens if one horn blows?
All horns blow
What happens in the event of a tow bar separation?
The move director will give two short horn blasts
What is the responsibility of the director?
Takes full responsibility for the aircraft and personnel during the evolution
What is the responsibility of the wing/tail walker?
Ensure a clear route of movement and remains ready to use signaling devices to stop the evolution when necessary
What is the responsibility of the driver?
Pre operational inspection of the tow tractor and tow bar as well as following instructions from the move director as closely as possible while operating the tow tractor
What is the responsibility of the brake rider?
Pre movement inspection of the aircraft and its systems for functionality, possible use of APU/ground power to charge brakes
What is the responsibility of the chock walkers?
Removal/Installment of chocks and safe placement of chock in the event of a runaway aircraft
Why should you not apply brakes in cold weather?
Application of the brakes may cause O-rings to shrink and leak brake fluid
