Benidorm, Spain was a small fishing village in the 50s- By 1990 it had become a mass tourism destination- With hundreds of high rise buildings and hotels- very busy- generated a lot of money- gone into decline in recent years- regenerated- easy access due to cheap flights- become more British, pubs etc- faces competition from other cheap resorts and destinations such as Egypt

More people choosing to holiday in the UK- 29% in 2009 and 48% in 2011- Cheaper and faster- Recession- Less travel time- Good if people have a fear of flying- Go for a weekend- Don’t have to take a lot of time off work- Advertised more- Attracts more people- Improves local economy
How has technology changed tourism?
Cheap airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet mean more people go abroad and more often- Book last minute holidays online- Convenient- Cheap- Costs the same as staying in certain parts of the UK

Long haul flights- US, AUS- flown more frequently- Cheaper than they used to be- Advertisement and globalisation mean places are more connected- Countries easily accessible- Holiday with guaranteed nice weather
