Topik3 Flashcards
Strengthening exs
An external force applied to the body to oppose the force of muscular contractions
Indication
Muscle weakness/paralysis
Muscular power
The optimal amount of work performed in a given time period
Method used= progressive resistance- low repetition exs
Endurance
Quality which develops in response to repetitive contraction
Volume
Can be observed as indication of hypertrophy
Hypertrophy is the enhancement of muscle size
Types of resistance exs
Manual
Mechanical
Maual resistance exercise
Provide by therapist or other health professional
Patient can be taught how to apply self resistance
Advantages;
-most effective during rehabilitation when muscle are weak
-Muscle works maximally at all portions of ROM
-useful for dynamic or static strengthening
Disadvantages;
-Exercise load
-little value for strong muscle group
Mechanical resistance exercise
Useful when the amount of resistance necessary is greater than what the therapist can apply manually
Technique of resisted exs
Starting position
The pattern of movement
Stabilization
Traction
The resisting force
The character of the movement
Repetition
The cooperation of the patient
What is RM1
The maximum weight that are capable of lifting in a single repetition of a particular movement/exc
What is delorme system?
Progression from light to heavy resistance
3 sets
Oxford system
Opposite of delorme, heavy to light resistance
Known as regressive exercise
Stretching exc
Lengthen pathologically shortened soft tissue to increase the ROM
Active stretching
Person do the stretch by holding part of body in stretched position
Passive stretching
Therapist stretch the body and hold for a period of time
