15
Q

Explain the process of conduction

A

-energy is transferred to an objects thermal energy store
-this energy is shared across the kinetic energy store of the particles
The particles vibrate and collide
-energy is transferred during these collisions to the kinetic energy store

Q

What is thermal conductivity

A

How quickly energy is transferred through a material

17
Q

What does it mean if an object has a high conductivity

A

They transfer energy quickly between their particles

18
Q

Where does convection occur

A

In liquids and gases

19
Q

What is convection

A

Where particles move away from hotter to cooler regions

20
Q

How does convection work

A

-energy is transferred to the thermal energy store of the particles
-the energy is shared across the kinetic energy store
-the heated region particles move faster and the space between particles increases
-this means the he density of the heated region decreases
-the warmer, less dense region rises
-the cooler denser regions sink
-the cooler particles heat up and rise, repeating the process
