Explain how and why the Weimar Republic failed in 1933.

= Explain how and why Hitler was able to become Chancellor of Germany in January 1933

Weaknesses in the Weimar System
Powers of President - e.g. Appoint/Dismiss, etc.
Article 48 - Misuse.
P.R - Coalition Governments = Unstable

Wall Street Crash - 1929
Loans recalled back.
No investment in businesses.
Unemployment –> Welfare Provisions –> Costs Gov.
Unemployment also causes resentment towards Democracy.
People lost faith in the government.
Turn to more extreme parties to solve their problems.
And When the Nazis started talking, they found receptive ears

Appeal of the Nazis
Nationalists.
Greater Germany.
Bread & Work.
They promised to solve unemployment.
They promised to solve Germany's problems.
They policies were appealing to people.

Political Intrigue
Those involved; Heinrich Brüning, Von Papen, Von Schleicher.
Weakened Democracy and the country.
People lost faith, turned to extreme parties.
