A

Hospital informed more pseudo patients would try to enter but none did. Staff asked to rate all patients on a 10 point rating scale. 1 and 2 reflected high confidence that the patient was pseudo patient.

Results?

A

Over three months 193 patients were admitted for treatment. Number judged to be PPs were:

  • 41 by one staff member
  • 23 by one psychiatrist
  • 19 by one staff member and psychiatrist

Conclusions?

A
  • Diagnosis wasn’t valid, couldn’t distinguish sane from insane. Majority got SZ so reliable.
  • Psychiatrists are overcautious, rather label the sane, ill than the ill, sane.
