One which is always present in data due to readings that vary randomly, with no recognisable trend or bias
I.e. could be caused by a faulty instrument, human error, poor technique
What is absolute uncertainty?
The size of the range of values that the ‘true’ value lies
What is fractional uncertainty?
Dividing the uncertainty by the value of the data
What is percentage uncertainty?
Fractional uncertainty x 100
