Topic 9.4.11 - Thin & Thick client computing Flashcards
Explain a Thin-client network
The majority of the proceses are done by the central servers which also provide storage.
Advantages of Thin-client networks
Scalability - easy to add new clients
Cheap - clients only need cheap machines
Security - Greater control since managed from central server
Disadvantages of a Thin-client network
Very powerful server is expensive
Serious expertise to setup and maintain
High volumes of traffic - data collisions
Maintenance costs
Explain a Thick-client network
Clients are powerful enough to complete their own processes and provide their own storage.
Most of these networkds dont have a server
Advantages of Thick-client networks
Less maintenance costs
Low volumes of traffic - less data collisions
Disadvantages of Thick-client networks
Hard to manage security
Very expensive setup costs
