How many light sources can you see within the painting?

What is Form?
The term artists use to describe objects with a sense of three-dimensional volume rather than being flat two-dimensional shapes.
What is the most effective way to create the illusion of a three-dimensional figure?
Tonal modelling.
How is Tonal modelling used?
Make an outline drawing → use a single light source to model it with light and shade, moving from highlights to shadows.
What does Sfumato avoid?
Sharp outlines.
What is Sfumato a much softer way of showing than tonal modelling?
Form.
What certain styles rely heavily on outline drawing to represent the form of figures and objects?
Gothic and classical revival styles such as Renaissance and Neoclassical.
What styles create form using shadow or patches of colour rather than line?
Baroque and Romantic art.
What is Scale?
The actual size of the painting and its significance.
What can have meaning within the work?
The scale of figures.
