Topic 9/16 kinetics Flashcards

1
Q

What are 3 assumptions of the kinetic theory model

A

-The volume of the container is negligible to volume of gas it contains
-The time in between collisions is
negligible
-Molecules do no attract each other

2
Q

Explain the effect of concentration on rate

A

Increasing concentration will increase rate as there are more molecules in the same volume so more frequent collisions

3
Q

Explain the effect of pressure on rate

A

Increasing pressure means molecules are closer together so more frequent collisions

Q

Explain the effect of temperature on rate

A

Increasing temperature means more molecules have enough kinetic energy to react when they collide and more frequent collisions so rate increases.

Q

In the iodine propanone reaction, why is sodium hydrogencarbonate added?

A

It stops the reaction mixture by neutralising the catalyst (the acid). Allowing it to be titrated

Q

In the iodine-propanone reaction, why is propanone and the acid in large excess?

A

The concentrations of propanone and acid will barely change so the concentration of iodine can be found
