Statistical Question
A question that has many different, or variable, answers.
Mean
Average; the sum of all the numbers in the data set added together and divided by the total number of data values in the set
Median
the middle score in a distribution
Mode
The value that occurs most frequently in a given data set; Most Often
Range
the difference between the highest and lowest scores in a data set
Box Plot
a diagram that shows the distribution of data values using the median, quartiles, minimum value, and maximum value on a number line
Quartiles
Values that divide a data set into four equal parts
Frequency Table
Shows the number of times a value occurs in each category or interval
Histogram
a graph that uses bars to show how characteristics or values are distributed within a group
Absolute Deviation
the absolute value of the difference between a value and the mean
Mean Absolute Deviation
the average (or mean) of all the absolute deviations (or differences)
Interquartile Range
A measure of variability, defined to be the difference between the third and first quartiles.
Outlier
a data value that is very different from the other values
Data Distribution
How the data values are arranged. To describe, you evaluate its measure of center and variability, and its overall shape.
Symmetrical
same on both sides
