gets lower
product
the answer to the problem
dividend
A number that is divided by another number.
quotient
the answer to a division problem
coordinate grids
A two-dimensional network of horizontal and vertical lines that are parallel and evenly-spaced
x-axis
the horizontal line on a graph (left and right)
y-axis
the vertical line on a graph (up and down)
slope
rise over run
plot
point on a graph
fraction
part of a whole
decimal
A number with one or more digits to the right of a decimal point. If you are finding this and are given a fraction, you divide the numerator by the denominator.
ratio
The quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one value contains or is contained within the other. Basically the same thing as a fraction.
percentage
Multiplies the cell value by 100 and displays the result with a percent (%) symbol. To get a percentage from a fraction, you must first convert the fraction to a decimal and then multiple it by 100.
integer
All whole numbers (both positive and negative) and zero.
mean
A measure of center in a set of numerical data, computed by adding the values in a list and then dividing by the number of values in the list. (aka the average)
median
Middle number
mode
The value that occurs most frequently in a given data set.
range
Distance between highest and lowest scores in a set of data.
proportion
- The relationship of one thing to another in size, amount, etc. 2. Size or weight relationships among structures or among elements in a single structure.
Area of a cone
pi r squared + pi(r)(l), where l is lateral height
Area of a cylinder
S=2πr²+2πrh
positive

correlation
A measure of the relationship between two variables
exponent
(n.) one who advocates, speaks for, explains, or interprets; (math) the power to which a number, symbol, or expression is to be raised
angle
A figure formed by two rays with a common endpoint. Think about corners like in a room.
acute angle
an angle that measures less than 90 degrees
obtuse angle
An angle that measures more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees
right angle
an angle that measures 90 degrees
square root
a number that when multiplied by itself equals a given number
rational number
A number that can be written as a fraction
irrational numbers
An ____________ cannot be represented as the quotient of two integers. In decimal form, irrational numbers do not terminate or repeat
variable
A symbol used to represent a quantity that can change
algebraic expression
A mathematical phrase involving at least one variable and sometimes numbers and operation symbols.
inverse operations
Operations that do the exact opposite of each other; they undo each other (addition and subtraction, for example)
distributive property
a property indicating a special way in which multiplication is applied to addition of two or more numbers in which each term inside a set of parentheses can be multiplied by a factor outside the parentheses, such as a(b + c) = ab + ac
probability
A number that describes how likely it is that an event will occur
prime number
A whole number that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself.
pi
The ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter
scale
Specify a percentage of original size to enlarge or reduce the size of an object.
