Management information system
Convert data from Internal and external sources into information
An organised collection of people, procedures and resources that support the decisions of managers
Features of an EFFECTIVE MIS (5)
Information that is relevant and accurate
Give the information when required
Be accessible to a wide range of users
Present the data in the most appropriate format
Be flexible - the system should fit in with the managers not the other way round
Features of a GOOD MIS (5)
Accuracy of data Flexibility of data analysis Providing data/information in an appropriate format Accessible to a wide range of users Avoids information overload
Features of a BAD MIS (7)
Complexity of the system
Lack of formal methods
Inadequate initial analysis - done by someone inexperienced which means the MIS can contain errors
Lack of management involvement in the design
Inappropriate hardware and software
Lack of professional standards
Lack of management knowledge about ICT systems and their capabilities
