Topic 8 - Chemical analysis Flashcards
Define a pure substance
Something that contains only one compound or element throughout.
1) Which subtances have specific melting/boiling points?
2) How can you test how pure a subtance is?
1) Pure subtances
2) By measuring the boiling and melting point of teh sample and comparing results of the pure subtances; the closer to the actual measurings, the purer the sample is.
How do impurities in samples affect the boiling and melting points?
Give 2 ways
It will lower the melting point and increase the melting range of the subtances.
It will also increase the boiling point that can result into the sample boiling at a range of temperatures.
Define formulations
Useful mixtures with a precise purpose that are made by following a formula.
Why are formulations important in medicine?
Where are they used in everyday life?
1) The chemists can ensure that it delivers the drug to the correct path of the body at the right concentration that it’s consumable and has more shelf-life.
2)
