Define ‘transferable skills’
Skills that are relevant to more than one area of technical expertise
Define ‘key selection criteria’
Standards or benchmarks of performance, ability, qualifications and experience that employers have set in relation to a job position
Define ‘personal brand’
The set of characteristics and skills that sets one person apart from another; also known as unique selling proposition
Define ‘credentialsim’
The process of restricting access to prefessions by setting higher and higher entrance standards
Define ‘employment-experience paradox’
The situation that occurs when you can’t get a job with experience, and you can’t get experience without a job
Define ‘solicited application letter’
A cover or application letter written in response to an actual advertisement or notice of a job vacancy
Define ‘unsolicited application letter’
A cover of application that is written when no advertisement or notice has been placed, in the hope that it may attract interest from a potential employer

A resume with personal information laid out in time sequence
Define ‘functional format resume’
A resume with personal information arranged in categories

Automated system used to advertise jobs, input resumes from web, email and print sources; analyse and filter resume data; reply to correspondance; set up selection interviews; and conduct applicant testing

Automated system used by employers to gather and analyse data from onlein and paper resumes
