Topic 6.1 - Stimuli And Responses Flashcards
What are the main two parts to the Nervous System?
The peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system.
What is the central nervous system made up of?
The brain and the spinal cord.
What is the peripheral nervous system made up of?
The sensory nervous system and the motor nervous system.
What is the motor nervous system made up of?
The voluntary nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.
What is the autonomic nervous system made up of?
The sympathetic system and parasympathetic system.
What does the sympathetic system do?
Prepares the body for activity.
What does the Parasympathetic system do?
Calm the body down after activity, return to normal state.
What does myogenic mean?
The cardiac (heart) muscle can contract and relax without using the nervous system’s impulses, it does it by itself.
