The SS (Schutzstaffel) was the elite guard of the Nazi regime and a virtual state within the Third Reich.

Who did they use the Gestapo to scare people?
Through intimation - people thought they were everywhere despite the organisation actually being very small.
How did Hitler control art?
He saw abstract modern art as degenerate and over 6500 works were removed from gallerys. Hitler encouraged and displayed ‘Aryan art’ - works that showed the nazi values, power within the military, and the german race.
How did Hitler control literature?
They burned 1000s of books in 1933 that were viewed as anti- nazis. It was illegal to keep these books in possession.
