How did the nazis use the fire to their advantage?
to claim that Communists were plotting against the German government
What was the decree for the protection of people and the state?
The decree permitted the restriction of the right to assembly, freedom of speech, and freedom of the press, among other rights, and it removed all restraints on police investigations
What happened to the communist party?
They were banned from the reichstag and all press was controlled or banned
What was the enabling act?
The Enabling Act allowed the Reich government to issue laws without the consent of Germany’s parliament without following the constitution

14 July 1933 - the Nazi party was the only party in the reichstag
What happened on the night of the long knives?
purge of the SA leadership and other political opponents from 30 June 1934 to 2 July 1934. Carried out primarily by the SS and the Gestapo, over 150 people were murdered and hundreds more were arrested.
What was the purpose of the night of the long knives?
to eliminate the SA as hitler could not risk annoying or enraging the army or SS (highly trained soldiers) with the SA’s carelessness, brutality and irresponsibility

2 August 1934 - he died of lung cancer, age 86 in east prussia
