Topic 6- Groups in the perioidic table Flashcards
1
Q
Group 1- Alkali Metals
A
- Reactive, more reactive down the table as the forces are weaker holding the electrons
- One outer shell electron
- First column of the periodic table
- A reaction would produce a hydroxide and hydrogen gas
2
Q
Group 7 - Halogens
A
- Reactive, more reactive as you go up the table.
- 7th group in periodic table, 7 electrons in outer shell
- The atomic radius is larger down the table
Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine and Astatine
Gas , Green Gas, Brown Liquid, Silver Solid and Black Solid
3
Q
Group 8/0 - Noble Gases
A
- Full outer shell
- Inert
- Used in filament lamps
- Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, Radon
- From colourful compounds
4
Q
Reactions of Halogens
A
- Displacement
- The more reactive halide will replace another
- Zinc Bromide + Chlorine = Zinc Chlorine + Bromine
