What are the impacts of international migration?

What does inequality mean?
Lack of consistent equality between sets of people in areas, cities, or across whole countries.
How can we measure inequality?
Statistics, surveys, salaries, wealth, health, house prices, jobs, food quality, pollution, life expectancy.
What is it called when there are inequalities between different areas of one country?
Regional disparities.
What are examples of regional disparities?
Lack of transport, income, weather, relief, factories closed
List some places that suffer from regional disparities.
Sheffield, Scotland, wales, north England.
How does the government try and solve regional disparities?
Donations to the north to spend on improving the cities infrastructure.
What are the 3 types of migration affecting the UK?
Retirement, International, Rural to Urban
What does assisted area status offer?
Less wealthy areas get government funding.
What are assisted areas?
Areas of highest need.
What are the different industry sectors>
Primary - agriculture
Secondary - Manufacturing (light, etc)
Tertiary - Services(NHS, keyworkers, banking, police)
Quarternary - highly skilled (research and development)
Define ‘deindustrialization’
Decreased activity in manufacturing and the closure of industries, leading to unemployment.
Define ‘industrialization’
An increase in the popularity of the secondary sector of the economy (manufacturing)
How has the economy in the North East changed over time?
The North East used to be dominated by heavy industry but in the last 50 years has declined due to foreign competition, high land, and labor costs.
How has the economy in the South East changed over time?
There has been economic growth in the South East as there are important oil refineries at Southhampton, and the M4 corridor become a center for light industries
