Q

How are nerve signals transferred across a synapse? (2 marks)

A

Chemicals diffuse across a synapse

They set off a new electrical impulse to the next neurone

Q

Alcohol is a depressant. How does it affect the reaction time?

A

Reaction time will be slower

Nerve signals take longer to travel around the body

Q

Someone touches a nettle and the hand moves away. Explain the actions taken by the reflex arc. (4 marks)

A

Pain receptors in the hand respond to the nettle.
An electrical signal is produced which travels along the sensory neurone.
The sensory neurone is then connected to the CNS via a relay neurone.
Relay neurone is then connected to a motor neurone which travels to the effector to carry out a response.
