Topic 5- FORCES Flashcards
What is a vector quantity?
They have a magnitude and direction
Examples of vector?
Force, velocity, displacement, acceleration, momentum
What is a scalar quantity?
They have only magnitude and no direction.
Examples of scalar?
Speed, distance, mass, temperature, time
What is gravitational force?
It is the force of attraction between masses.
What is mass?
The amount of stuff there is. Measured with a mass balance kg
What is weight?
The force acting on the object due to gravity. Measured with a newton meter.
What is the equation for weight?
Mass(kg) x GFS (N/kg)
What is the gravitational field strength on earth?
9.8N/kg
What are weight and mass?
Directly proportional
What is resultant force?
The overall force acting on an object
What happens when a resultant force moves an object?
When a force moves an object through a distance, energy is transferred and work is done.
What is the work done equation?
Work done(J)=Force(N) x Distance (m)
What is 1J?
1 Nm
