TOPIC 5 - FORCES Flashcards
What is a force
Force is a push or pull upon an object
What is a vector
A vector is an object that has both a magnitude and a direction
Whats the equation for force
Force (f) = Magnitude (m) x Acceleration (a)
What are the vector quantities
Force,velocity,displacement and acceleration
What is a Scalar quantities
A Scalar quantities are quantities that have a magnitude but no direction
Scalar Quantities
Speed,distance,mass,temperature and time
What are vector usually represented by
Arrows
What do the arrow show/mean
The length of the arrow shows the magnitude and the direction of the arrow shows the direction of the quantity
What are the different types of forces
Contact and Non-cantact
What is a contact force
A contact force is when two objects have to be touching for a force to act, the force is a contact force
What are examples of a contact force
Friction,air resistance,tension,normal contact force
What is a non-contact force
Non-contact force are when the objects do not need to be touching for the force to act, the force is a non-contact force
What are examples of non-contact forces
Magnetic force,gravitational force,electrostatic force
What is a interaction pair
When two objects interact, a force is produced on both objects. The forces on the two objects are equal in size but act in opposite direction
