Topic 5 Extending Human Vision Flashcards
Near point of the eye
Shortest distance at which an object is in focus.
Far point of the eye
The longest distance at which an object is in focus
The type of lens in a human eye
Convex lens, which focuses the light rays entering your eye to a point on your retina
Myopic
Near sightedness, eye is too long and the image forms in front of the retina, have trouble seeing distance objects (me)
Hyperopia
Far sightedness, eye is too short, image forms behind the retina, have trouble seeing objects close
What does LASER stand for
Light
Amplification by the
Stimulated
Emission of
Radiation or laser light.
Refracting Telescopes
Light from a distant object is collected and focused by a convex lens called the objective lens.
A second lens, called the eyepiece lens, works as a magnifying glass to enlarge the image.
Reflecting Telescopes
Uses a concave mirror to collect rays of light from a distant object. The mirror is called the primary or objective mirror. It forms a real image, which is then magnified by the eyepiece lens
Binoculars
Two reflecting telescopes mounted side by side.
Telescopes that are shortened by placing glass blocks inside.
These glass blocks, called prisms, serve as plane mirrors.
Microscopes
Modern compound light microscopes can magnify objects up to 2000×.
Compound microscopes have an objective lens that forms a real image of the object. Then an eyepiece lens magnifies the image further.
Magnifying glass
A magnifying glass is a simple kind of microscope.
Magnifying glasses are used for magnifications up to about ten times actual size.
