Demography
Study of the characteristics of human populations, such as their size and structure and how these change over time
Migration
Changing the country of usual residence for a period of at least a year, so the country of destination becomes country of usual residence
Globalisation
The growing interconnectedness of societies across the world, with the spread of the same culture, consumer goods and economic interests
Life expectancy
An estimate of how long the average can be expected to live
Death rate
(Mortality rate) the numbers of deaths per loss of the population per year
Infant mortality rate
The number of deaths of babies in their 1st year of life per 1000 live births per year
Ageing population
Where the average age is getting higher, with a greater proportion of the population over retirement age and a smaller population of younger people
Dependency ratio
An increasing n. of older people have to be supported by a decreasing population of the working population
