Topic 4 - WAN Technologies Flashcards
WAN Technologies
PPP - Types of Authentication
PAP, CHAP and EAP
What is PAP (Password Authentication Protocol)?
2 way Authentication.
The username and password are usually sent in plain text. t.
What is CHAP (Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol)?
3 way authentication
the remote router sends a challenge to a router that is trying to communicate. The router then responds with an encrypted username and password and if the parameters are correct, the remote router accepts the PPP connection
What is the benefit of point-to-point leased line?
Flexibility of design
&
Simply configuration
Which command can you enter to verify that a BGP connection to a remote device is established?
show ip bgp summary
Which two components are used to identify a neighbor in a BGP configuration?
autonomous system number & IP address
At which layer of the OSI model does PPP perform?
Layer 2
PPPoE
Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet, It Encapsulates PPP frames inside Ethernet frame. Also, offers Authentication, Encryption and Compression.
How many bits are added to Over head in PPPoe?
PPP adds 2 bytes and PPPoE adds 6 bytes.
So, 1500 - 8 = 1492 (MTU)
GRE?
Generic routing encapsulation (GRE) is a simple site-to-site VPN tunneling protocol.
- Tunnel IP packet across the Internet.
- GRE can encapsulate any OSI layer 3 protocol,
- GRE tunnel interface address will be on same subnet.
GRE Stateless?
GRE is Stateless and do not include flow control.
DSCP Value
Default, EF, Class selector and AF ( Assured forwarding )
IP precedence bits and DSCP Bits in QOS Marking
IP - 3bits and DSCP - 6 bits
What TCP port number does BGP use?
Port 179
Which packet-switched WAN technology offers high-bandwidth connectivity capable of managing data, voice, and video all on the same infrastructure?
Metro Ethernet
