Q

How is the xylem adapted for its function?

A
  1. The cells are dead. If they were living they would have absorbed the water so it is important they’re dead.
  2. The end cell wall walls have been removed so there is a continuous flow.
  3. They have lignin which strengthens the walls (prevents them from collapsing) due to negative pressure when water is pulled up.
