Topic 3 Voice of the genome Flashcards
What are all living things made from?
All living things are made of cells. Cells have many common features, but it is possible to distinguish between two basic types: Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
Prokaryotic cells:
Bacteria and cyanobacteria (photosynthetic bacteria) together make up the prokaryotae kingdom. Their cells do not have nuclei or other membrane-bound organelles. This type of cell is called a prokaryotic cell.
Size of Prokaryotes?
Most prokaryotes are extremely small with diameters between 0.5 and 5 μm. Their DNA is not associated with any proteins and lies free in the cytoplasm. A cell wall is always present in prokaryotic cells.
